If this is your first time, then lesson one is to be patient and follow exactl our instructions and we promise, you will know everything there is to know about installing tire lettering professionally.
Weather your tires are off the car or on the car, you need a good tire degreaser that is safe for mags, wheels and car paint. ( this is very important since you do not want to discolor your wheels or the paint of your car by accident ), a brush made to clean or scrub tires and wheels, access to a water hose . once you gathered all that, you will start with one tire, spray the entire surface of the tire with tire degreaser, let stand a min.. then scrub the surface of the tire with the brush, you will see that a lot of grease and dirt will appear. rinse with water , and repeat this 4 times on a tire. once done do the same for the rest of your tires.
Your tires are manufactures with pr-existing lettering that are most likely raised on the surface and you DO NOT want to install your letters on top of that cause not only your letters will come out bumpy but also you will end up parts of your letters that wont fuse to the tire hence the gap between the surface of tire and letters caused by the manufactured raised rubber. Easiest way is to find 2 flat spots on your tire and that they are also the opposite side of each other. Lets say you have no choice and that you have no place to install the letters but the raised rubber part of your tires, first thing to do is to layout your spelled out letters on the top side and then lay out the rest of the lettering at the bottom so they face each other. example : TOYO on top part and another TOYO at the bottom so they face each other as you see on the pic in this page. now make sure you measure the distance between the top and bottom on either side from end to end. to make sure you are centered. example : on the pic in this page the distance between letter O on top and T at bottom ( right side ) have to be the same distance for the opposite site from T on top to O at bottom ( left side ) . once you got it done mark the measured area where you want your letters spelled out with a tape or a tire marker. now put away your letters. take a sand paper , eliminate the raised rubber in the area where you have marked with the sand paper till you get a flat surface ( DO NOT USE A SANDER, YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR TIRES ) NOTE: if you have found a ready flat surface on the tire just do a quick scuffing with your sand paper and only on the area where you want your letters installed. once you have done all 4 tires. clean all tires again only once with the degreaser and rinse. let the tires get completely dry or if you have an air compressor with air nozzle, use the compressed air to quickly dry the tires.
For this part you need to be patient, precise and very careful. you going to need a clean cloth and soak it with 70% or higher rubbing alcohol, use the soaked cloth and wipe the surface area where you have marked and installing your letters. wait till the alcohol dries from the surface. Now take another clean white dry cloth and rub it firmly on the same surface area, if the cloth stays clean, then congrats you have done a great job decontaminating your tires, if not and the cloth comes up black or dirty, then you have left grease on the surface and you need to clean the tires again. this is very important in tire lettering since any impurity on the tire surface will effect the fusion between the letters and the tires and you will end up with poor results. Now that all is ready and prepped you start by making sure you are wearing rubber mechanic gloves or surgical gloves. ( to avoid having skin contact with super adhesive glue ) . start by squeezing glue on the back side of your letters, remember not to use a lot, just enough to cover the back surface of the letters. once you press the letters against the surface of the tire make sure you run your fingers over the letters to make sure no bubbles or air are present underneath, by doing so if any extra glue squeezes from the corners make sure you wipe it clean instantly with A DRY CLOTH. never use wet or alcohol soaked cloth over the letters while you are installing. if you are installing one letter at a time make sure the spacing between all letters are the same and also the curvature has to follow your tire curvature make sure every letter follows the previous latter u installed. BEST WAY? have your letters applied on the applicator pads before installing, this way your letters are all in order properly with perfect spacing and exact curvature to your tire. repeat same technique for all tires.
